Library Newsletter – Term 2 Week 3

THIS WEEK IN THE LIBRARY

Celebrating Mothers

Mother’s Day Sunday May 9th

We are coming up to Mother’s Day and it seems like a good time to read some YA books that focus on motherhood and mother-child relationships, in all forms.

Have a look at some of the reading suggestions in this newsletter for books available to borrow or reserve in the school library.

Also, this week, a bit of a focus on Star Wars reads for May 4th – Star Wars Day.  For all those sci fi geeks out there, like me, we also have some reading suggestions on books to try if you love Star Wars.

A lot of media focus has been given to making sure our students are taught media literacy skills.  But just how many Australian adults have good media literacy skills?  How can we teach our children if we don’t have the skills ourselves.  This week we feature information from a national survey run by The Conversation, a collaboration between Australian & New Zealand academics and journalists, about how Australian adults also need to develop our media literacy skills.

The first submissions have been sent in for The Million Word Team Reading Challenge for our Years 7 & 8 students.  Find the latest updates in this newsletter.

Finally, I was asked to write an article for a magazine that is distributed to all Victorian school about our school library.  So, here is the link to the article…
