Warcross by Marie Lu

Warcross by Marie Lu has been a much anticipated book during 2017 so I was very keen to read it.  I have to say, for the first couple of chapters I was wondering what all the hype was about, but then the plot really got going and I loved it!

Warcross, a virtual reality game, has become a way of life and an obsession across the world.  It has become a way to escape reality and make money for the world’s population.  The developer, Hideo Tanaka is a young billionaire idolised by all.  Emika Chen works as a bounty hunter who tracks down players who bet on the game illegally, but she is also a world-class hacker.  When, desperate for money to avoid eviction, she hacks into the opening ceremony of the Warcross games.  When a glitch in her hack shows her image to the whole audience, instead of the police arriving as she expected, she is summoned to Tokyo by Hideo Tanaka himself.  Hideo has a job offer for her – become a player in the Warcross games whist searching for an elusive hacker named Zero who is threatening the Warcross world.

The story races along from there and draws you into the world of Warcross, which seems eerily possible with advanced in augmented reality we see happening in our own world.

Who is Zero?  What is he trying to accomplish?  Who are the other hackers Hideo has also employed in competition to Emika and what will she do when she finally works it all out?

A must read book and when’s the movie!
