Library Newsletter : Introduction To The Library

WELCOME TO THE SCHOOL LIBRARY!

Welcome back to all our students, staff and school families, but an especially big welcome to all the new members to our school community.

This is the first edition of our weekly school library newsletter 2021 and I wanted to take this opportunity to provide an introduction to the school library, the services we offer and how you can access them.

THE SCHOOL LIBRARY IS MUCH MORE THAN JUST THE PHYSICAL LIBRARY SPACE.

How you may ask?  Aren’t school libraries a thing of the past?  Can’t we just use Google to get all the information we need?

In fact, school libraries are more important than ever for school communities. At Forest Hill College we are lucky to have a dedicated school library, run by enthusiastic and qualified staff who love to share our love our libraries with the whole school community, supported by a school leadership team who understand the value of reading and literacy for both the wellbeing our our students, as well as their academic success.

In the online world we all live in, it is vital that a school provides easy access to the library resources whenever our students need it.

To make this possible, the library website is accessible through the “FHC Library” link under the Favourites menu (the * menu) of Compass.  By following this link, it is possible to log in and browse the library catalog, see what’s new, search for books, look up books by their genre, check out the reading lists for books suggested by the library team, go the the News page and browse through the study guides provided…. and much more!

We also have a  ‘LIBRARY BLOG‘, accessible through the link on Compass, for book reviews, general library news and information on literacy and reading.

Our students and staff also have access to borrowing ebooks and audio books, using the ‘LIBRARY EBOOKS‘ link on Compass or by downloading the SORA App.

The library also has an active Instagram account – @fhclibrary – for daily posts about books, the library, what we are reading, and much more.  Please follow us if you are on Instagram.

THE SCHOOL LIBRARY IS MUCH MORE THAN JUST BOOKS

The school library offers more than just access to books, even though we do have a large selection of recent release of books for recreational reading.  The library is open from 8:30am – 4pm Monday to Friday.  Students can visit the library before school, at recess, at lunch time and after school to borrow or return books, study, socialise with friends, reading, play games, participate in activities or just have some quiet time out of the busyness of the school day.

Need help with an assignment or just want more information on something you are studying in class?  Then access the LearnPath study guides that provide curated information to provide extra reading.

THE SCHOOL LIBRARY IS THE HEART OF THE SCHOOL

We invite all members of our school community to visit us in the library and we will be happy to show you around and discuss the services we have to offer.

To read more about the services the school library offers and how to access them, read the full Library Newsletter.

We hope to see you in the library soon.
