I Was Born For This by Alice Oseman

The Ark are the biggest pop-rock band in the world and for Angel Rahimi they are her whole like.  They make like worth living and she dreams of meeting them.

Jimmy Kaga-Ricci, the transgender front man for The Ark, playing music with his best friends is all he has ever dreamed of doing.

But dreams don’t always turn out how you think.

When Jimmy and Angel are thrust together at a fan meet and greet event that goes wrong, they find out how strange and surprising facing up to reality can be.

This is a funny, wise, and heartbreakingly true coming of age novel. I Was Born for This is a stunning reflection of modern teenage life, and the power of believing in something – especially yourself.

I loved how diversity was handled in this book.  Angel is an Islamic girl who wear the hijab, Jimmy is transgender with an anxiety disorder.  But their diversity is not the point of the story, it is just part of it.  Something that not many books can handle so well.
